THE MESSAGE” is a song written by Tom Traversy and put to music by Pat McNinch.
Tom wrote this song as a veteran of the military but, more importantly, out of concern for our military and their families, in particular those facing personal difficulties and the lack of support that they should be receiving.
They deserve our respect, our honour and our gratitude for their service. They must know that they do not have to suffer in silence and that help is there when they need it the most.
Too many times, they have reached out for support only to be turned down or deferred.
The message is clear, thank them for their service.

HOME FROM THE FOREST” is a song by Gordon Lightfoot. The forest is a metaphor for the city which the old man has come home from. It is a forest of flashing neon lights and streets where the people he meets are strangers who only stare at him as he stumbles along. His “castle” is a hallway and his only friend is a bottle of wine. The old man is a soldier and a veteran of forgotten wars. The old man lies on his cot wondering how his life ended up the way it did. He recalls someone who loved him years ago and senses her touching him and calling his name.
The final verse finds the old soldier has died, as for him “dawn will come no more.”

STREETS OF LONDON” is a song by Ralph McTell and was inspired by his experiences busking and hitchhiking throughout Europe, especially in France. The individual stories are taken from the poor and homeless in the different cities.
McTell’s song contrasts the common problems of everyday people with those of the homeless, lonely, elderly, ignored and forgotten members of society.

THE HOMELESS SOLDIER” (the second song written by Tom and Pat) deals with the sad situations that find some of our veterans becoming homeless. Considering the sacrifices they have made for our freedom, there are surely things that we could do to make their lives better. The song is about a young boy who dreams of serving his country. He signed up, said goodbye to his family and friends, and went to do his part. When the war ended he returned to find neither family nor home.
The tragedies of his experiences stayed in his memory making it hard to adjust to civilian life. He is just one of many who have found themselves homeless and ignored. We need to strive to resolve this situation. It is not their problem; it is OUR problem. We are working with Homes For Heroes Foundation to help our homeless veterans.
They deserve so much better. They deserve a home!

Homes for Heroes Foundation was developed in response to the growing number of military veterans who facing crises as they return to civilian life and find themselves on the path to homelessness.
